Ubisoft pulling popular game from Steam forever, you don't have long left to play it

Say it ain't so!

Video games getting pulled from services is never easy to deal with, especially if you’re a fan of the franchise targeted in the crosshairs. Unfortunately, we bring sad news today for more gamers as Ubisoft is removing a popular game from Steam indefinitely (Sorry. RIP).

The Crew will be removed from all platforms by the end of March 2024. In its announcement, Ubisoft said, “We understand this may be disappointing for players still enjoying the game, but it has become a necessity due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing constraints."

Let's dry those tears by watching The Crew Motorfest gameplay premiere!

"Decommissioning a game, and especially our first one, is not something we take lightly. Our goal remains to provide the best action driving gameplay experience for players and to deliver on it, we are continuing to provide new content and support for The Crew 2 and the recently launched The Crew Motorfest."

Ah, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Nonetheless, those who are still playing the original game will no doubt be feeling this latest gaming blow particularly hard.

The process of removal is already in effect, with the game no longer available via the Steam store – you can visit the title’s page, but you’ll find a notice about its removal, alongside the date of when the game will stop being playable.

Given the fact that The Crew has such mixed reviews, it probably isn’t a shock to those who’ve tried to play the game and found it lacking. When compared with the newer titles in the franchise, the original pales in comparison. But its imperfections paved the way to those newer titles, so credit must be given where it’s due.

“The Crew 1 enabled us to define the pillars of The Crew franchise: a social open world full of activities, an RPG progression system linked to the vehicles and actions players perform, and finally, guaranteeing players activities at any time of day," continued the Ubisoft statement. "Thanks to the experience developed on these pillars, we reached over 40 million players on the franchise last year, something we are incredibly proud of. We would like to personally thank each of our players, without whom we wouldn't be here today.”

Remember: the servers for The Crew will be shut down on 1 April 2024.
