We all enjoy sniping enemies from across the map, leaping from platform to platform, or putting pedal to the metal in high-octane video games.

However, sometimes you just need to grab a cup of tea, sit back and enjoy a beautifully written narrative with minimum gameplay mechanics and that is most certainly what you will find with The Berlin Apartment.

Releasing today and also available to check out courtesy of a free Steam demo, The Berlin Apartment is a story-rich, narrative-based video game from developers btf.

“One apartment, many stories: Witness turning points in the lives of the inhabitants of an apartment in Berlin over the course of a whole century,” the official Steam synopsis reads.

The story begins with Dilara who joins her father Malik as he accepts a job as a handyman in an apartment in the heart of Berlin.

With extensive renovation work to complete, Dilara must find ways to occupy herself and it is not long before she uncovers the stories and history that lurk beneath the apartment’s very foundations.

As she digs deeper into the history of the Berlin apartment, she uncovers the stories of its past inhabitants with players able to dive into some of the most historic years in Berlin’s history and meet a colourful cast.

“With each new find, Malik tells his daughter the story behind this trace of a past adventure - with its own protagonists, its own genre, and its own atmosphere, yet always set within the same four walls.”

We have our own thoughts about this gem

Complete with a stunning, colourful art-style and minimal gameplay, The Berlin Apartment encourages exploration and most importantly, an engaging narrative that will not just teach you about the past inhabitants themselves, but also the history of Germany as a whole.

As mentioned, The Berlin Apartment is expected to launch on Steam today but our very own Kate Harrold was lucky enough to check it out in advance.

“It’s a beautifully considered look into the human experience, offering players a concept that is creative and engaging,” her review reads.

“At the end of the day, the world needs more empathy and The Berlin Apartment, I feel, succeeds in promoting that, and that fact alone should be reason enough to give it a go.”

So if you are on the lookout for a narrative-rich, colourful tale with stunning visuals, then make sure to celebrate this brand-new launch later today.

The Berlin Apartment launches on 17 November on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
