Steam's Latest Free Slice Offers First Look At Atmospheric Horror

Steam users can now pick up a free taster for an upcoming atmospheric horror game, which looks like a mix of Blair Witch and Silent Hill.
The Blair Witch series has been a big inspiration for different video games over the years.
That whole vibe of getting "lost in the woods" has been a constant source of inspiration, and that may be why there have been several Blair Witch-themed games as well.
Now, Blair Witch and Silent Hill have collided in a brand new horror game that's coming to Steam, and you can play a free demo now.

The game in question is called The Lost Within, and its demo was released as part of Steam Next Fest, a large celebration of new and upcoming Steam games coming to the platform.
Developed by Valera, The Lost Within has you playing as a paranormal investigator who has committed his life to researching the occult and other supernatural phenomena.
The next location for his investigation? An isolated, ancient forest which used to belong to a "strange family".
Rumours surrounding the forest suggest that a woman who has "completely lost her mind" roams the thickets, terrorising anyone who dares to come near.
As the investigator, you venture into the forest with your gear equipped to uncover the secrets it holds and learn the dark truth behind the woman's presence.
The Lost Within is billed as a first-person horror experience. You'll get an intimate look at the scary imagery up close, seeing the world through the eyes of the protagonist and his experiences up close.
As you navigate the dense forest, you must search for hidden clues and items which help you to uncover the truth, using whatever you can to discover the true nature of what's going on here.
Meanwhile, The Lost Within also has some atmospheric puzzles you'll need to solve, where environmental riddles block your path, and you'll need to use some intuition and clever thinking to solve them.
The Lost Within's demo was published as part of Steam Next Fest, offering you a first look at the upcoming game through one of its early chapters.
Valera says the demo showcases the "core atmosphere and gameplay" and should be a good taster before trying the full game out.
As for when the full game will release, the Steam store page cites "June 2026" as the release date. A specific date has not been confirmed yet.
Since we only have just under two weeks until July begins though, I'd imagine the game may just shadow drop by Valera at any moment.
