Steam’s latest freebie can become a permanent part of your library, but only if you claim it in time.

Free games aren’t unusual for Steam but it’d be an understatement to say they’re not all winners. No shade to the charming indies littered throughout the store pages but for AAA games, you’re better off checking out the Epic Games Store.

Sometimes Steam does deliver a banger though, and the latest is set within a grimdark universe that anyone can enjoy.

Skulls For The Steam Store

Those familiar with Warhammer will know the 10th annual Warhammer Skulls showcase debuted on 21 May.

It brought several updates and announcements for new and existing Warhammer games, as well as special collaborations with other titles, like Helldivers II.

The Warhammer 40,000 offering was fantastic and you can try several games set in the infamous far grimdark future for free right on Xbox and PC.

One game in particular though, Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War, is now available as a free download you can keep forever, but only for a limited-time.

“Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War brings you to a world of terror and violence,” begins the game’s description.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War-
Slitherine Ltd.

“Four factions will engage in a brutal war for dominance over the planet’s resources. In the first turn-based 4X strategy game set in Warhammer 40,000 you will lead one of four unique factions.”

It’s pretty much Age of Empires but for Warhammer fans and quite a good one at that. It’s currently sitting pretty at a Very Positive rating on Steam with over 5,000 reviews.

Your factions of choice include Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and Astra Militarum. You can’t go wrong with any of them but for the easiest go of it, you’ll probably want to play as the Space Marines on your first playthrough.

Speaking of playthroughs, Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War doesn’t take long to beat unless you want it to.

According to HowLongToBeat you’re looking at around 10-11 hours if you want to simply blitz your way through the base game. That goes up to around 25 hours if you fancy doing some side activities, and those that want to see and do everything the game has to offer will be playing for 50 hours or more.

Those wanting to expand their time with the game further will want to check out the DLC packs. These add new playable factions including: Chaos Space Marines, Adeptus Sororitas, Tyranids, T’au and more.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War is free to own right now on the Steam store and once you’ve claimed it, it’s yours to keep forever.

You’ve only got until 28 May to add it to your collection though before it returns to its original price.
