If you like your humour verging on unhinged, then you’re most definitely going to enjoy what The Dungeon Experience has to offer.

Developed by Jacob Janerka, Simon Boxer, and Bone Assembly and published by Devolver Digital, The Dungeon Experience is an upcoming first-person adventure game that’s just launched its very first demo.

The title follows a “low-level mudcrab chasing his dream of helping YOU experience the true bliss of financial freedom”.

Yes, it’s a slightly strange concept but stick with me on this one.

From what I can gather, you’ll explore a weird and wacky dungeon, speaking to its various inhabitants including the likes of ‘Table Man’, a fellow who stays on all fours with a glass tabletop on his back, and Receptionist.

Honestly, it’s nigh impossible to get a feel for this one’s gameplay.

It’s definitely taking the focus of selling a ‘vibe’ and that vibe is very Deadpool-esque.

You should expect fourth wall-breaking commentary.

In fact, I’ll let the crab speak.

“Are you seeking a new adventure? A new start? Would you like to enter a cocoon and come out reborn, wealthy, beautiful and less rashy. (To be clear it is a metaphorical coccoon, we will not put you inside one, unless you want that.) Then join me on a life changing adventure in The Dungeon Experience,” the synopsis reads.

“It is a first-person guided adventure which will help you unlock the greatest loot of them all, Financial Freedom*. Which I achieved myself. I started as a humble crustacean, a low level RPG monster, scraping by at the bottom of the food chain. Now, thanks to determination, optimism, and a modest investment in oil-scented candles, I’m the proud owner of this incredible dungeon. Now confirmed to have all asbestos removed.”

It continues, “I want to share the same life-changing opportunity with you! Step inside my dungeon, explore its wonders, and take part in an exclusive training program that will guide you to Financial Freedom* and success. It will increase your chance with prospective partners of your choosing, whether that be romantic, platonic or George.”

“I am confident if you have the right, positive mindset, you too can rise through the ranks of a supportive, fast-growing, pyramid adjacent shaped community. If you have the wrong mindset, that's ok, I'll try to change your mindset, let me come to your house, whisper in your ear while you sleep, kind of like how family speak to their relatives in a coma, I think I can change you.”

You can see what I mean, I’m sure. Bonkers.

The game remains without a release date but will be launching on PC via Steam this year.

You can, however, now enjoy a demo which will allow you to “see the sturdy form of Table Man and feed him his favourite yumyums” as well as “meet The Crab, our Dungeon Master and receive your very own PRIVATE SAX PERFORMANCE!!”

I bet you almost misread that.

So if you’re in the mood for something thoroughly unhinged, perhaps this is one to try out.
