Steam New Free FPS Has a Well-Earned 100 Percent Rating

Steam’s new free FPS is currently making the rounds with a perfect 100% positive rating, and we can see why.

Spray N’ Pray is described as a “fast-paced boomer shooter” in which you play as a priest armed with a set of revolvers, who must purge the Earth of demons, hellspawn, and fallen angels.

It’s all pretty straightforward. You have these guns, there are demons to kill, and it has this pretty awesome retro vibe to it. Almost like a lost Doom game or something like that.

“Armed with your signature dual revolvers, you’ll unleash a storm of righteous bullets while mastering smooth movement; dash, run, and melee-strikes that close the distance between you and your enemies,” the game’s official description reads on Steam.

“Unleash your ultimate power by merging your revolvers into one divine weapon, unleashing a blistering hail of bullets. And when demons close the gap, crush them with a brutal melee strike to break their ranks. With every kill, you climb closer to your holy reckoning.”

Spray N’ Pray is a student project, and only around 10 minutes in length. Still, with it being free to play and pretty fun, it doesn’t sound like a bad waste of time.

It seems like the players are enjoying it, too. As of writing this article, Spray N’ Pray has a 100% positive review score according to Steam users.

“This game is amazing if your at all all a fan of games like Doom or Ultrakill,” reads one review. “I highly recommend giving this student project a shot.”

“Incredibly fun to play with a really interesting premise and setting,” another review reads. “A reminder of what proper gaming feels like. Wish it were way longer.”

While all of the reviews were positive on the whole, some also claim that Spray N’ Pray has some performance issues.

“It’s obviously heavily inspired by DOOM, and it pulls that off quite well. However, for a boomer style shooter to have an FPS cap of 30 is absolute blasphemy,” one review states.

Other reviews also cite the lack of video settings and framerate dips as a negative, but still recommend people check the game out. Since it's only a short experience, I don't think it'll be too much of a distraction.

Still, for a 10-minute long student project, it sounds like a great way to check out on a lunch break or on a spare evening. Spray N’ Pray is available to download now for free from Steam.
