A brand new free game that has just launched on Steam this weekend has accrued 100% positive ratings.

The Steam Winter Sale is going on right now, bringing thousands of discounts and cheap prices to a whole variety of different games.

While it’s tempting to spend your hard-earned money on some of the deep discounts on offer, there are still lots of free games you can try without needing to break the bank.

One such game is Operation: Outbreak, a brand new free game that launched yesterday (20 December) and already has 100% positive ratings by users.

Operation: Outbreak is a zombie FPS game where you play as a soldier who remains the sole survivor of a devastating vehicle explosion. With the remainder of your squad dead, you must navigate the war-torn streets of ‘Karzekistan’ to reach extraction.

The twist? The city has been overrun by undead zombies, meaning your survival has become a lot more difficult. You enlist the help of your squad’s coordinator to guide you through the city.

Developed as a student project for their final exam, Operation: Outbreak is a short experience built in Unreal Engine 5, taking up around 20–30 minutes of your time to complete.

Your only weapon is a pistol with limited ammo, so you’ll have to be smart about how to tackle each combat scenario you’re faced with. In addition to this, healing items and night vision are also limited, so you’ll need to really make every shot count.

Operation: Outbreak Has A "Cinematic And Immersive" Setting

Developer Dreadmith Games describes Operation: Outbreak’s setting as “cinematic and immersive”. There are derelict buildings, abandoned streets, and flickering lights, each setting the stage for relentless suspense.

Meanwhile, the tunnels underneath the city are dark and claustrophobic environments, adding a greater sense of threat when you struggle to see around every corner or further than a few feet ahead.

As of writing, Operation: Outbreak has 100% positive ratings from players, indicating that everyone has enjoyed it so far.

“Just beat the game. A short realistic zombie shooter where you explore an apocolyptic town, bridge and underground facility killing zombies. The game is super fun and has great immersion,” reads one review.

“I really enjoyed this short game - I had a lot of fun with it and did a few runs,” another review reads.

Operation: Outbreak is available to download now for free on Steam.
