If you’re a regular here, then you’ll know that I adore a good cosy game, but there is a major downside to the genre.
Playing a cosy title often includes a hefty chunk of grind.
Yes, of course, some repetitive actions are fun and I personally never tire of gardening or farming; mining ore, however, can occasionally zap all motivation from within me.
I’m sure you have your own idea of an activity that irks you and I want you to hold onto that feeling when I introduce OrePlant to you.

OrePlant, developed by Hypercent Inc, is what I’m going to pitch as Stardew Valley for lazy people, if we’re being a bit tongue in cheek.
It’s a farming sim but an idle one so you can leave the game to beaver away on its own, allowing you to return simply to enjoy the fruits of your lack of labour.
“Curious souls Finn and Maru are suddenly swept away into a mysterious new world by an unknown magical force,” the synopsis begins.
“In this world, a legendary World Tree stands tall—and with your touch, this enchanting land can come back to life. Join your adorable companion Aria and explore, restore, and nurture this magical realm together!”

You don’t have to leave the game to idly work.
Players can fish alongside “little weasel friend Dambi”, grow minerals alongside automated robots, harvest crops, cook dishes that grant buffs, and customise their farm.
There’s also a charming little story.
OrePlant is set to launch on PC in late 2025, although a free demo has now landed on Steam ahead of the next edition of Steam Next Fest.

This offers a small slice of the game for you to sample.
The full version of OrePlant will include additional crops and minerals, more robots and equipment, additional recipes, fish species, and upgrades, a longer story, more music, shops, a museum experience, a wider map, new animal friends, and more personalisation items.
I know the cosy space is becoming a little oversaturated, but I’m really vibing with what OrePlant has to offer.
There’s no review consensus on this one at the time of writing so you’ll have to go in dark but hey, perhaps then you can be the cool person that tells your friends you’ve discovered a great new indie.

If you enjoy what you play, I’m sure the devs would appreciate it if you wishlist the title to be kept up to date on its progress.
