Steam Money Saving Tip Is Why PC Gamers Love It So Much

It's the best at what it does

Steam has a reputation for being the best of the best when it comes to prices, making the upcoming Steam Machine slightly more appealing than a PlayStation or Xbox in my opinion.

From the never-ending sales to occasional freebies Steam is a champion when it comes to saving you money, and it turns out it’ll even tell you when you’re about to pull the trigger on an unwise purchase.

Steam users like FaffeJaffe who may be hunting for more games to throw into the backlog may be over eager when it comes to adding them to a basket and hitting purchase, so it’s a good thing the platform lets you know when you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

FaffeJaffe called it “Reason #581467 why Steam is the best”, before sharing a screenshot of the platform saying they could actually save even more money on their purchase of Receiver 2, which was already reduced due to one of the sales.

Steam said they could grab Receiver 2 as a lower price if they purchased the bundle, which includes said game and Receiver as one package deal.

I don’t buy many games on Steam as my only method of playing them at the moment is my Steam Deck, and I had no idea the store does this.

FaffeJaffe shared it to Reddit and some users reported that Steam does this to ensure there are no refund requests when gamers realise they could have gotten the game cheaper through a different edition, and even if that’s true it’s still a handy feature to have.

As far as I’m away my PlayStation 5 and Xbox has never told me to rethink my purchase if there are better deals on the store, and the refund process is far more unreliable for those platforms than it is on Steam.

Sometimes this feature is unhelpful though, as some commenters report that it’ll occasionally tell you that the game you’re trying to buy is cheaper as part of a bundle, even though the bundle is far more expensive than the individual game.

This is just down to the way the store perceives value, so it’s very much a case by case basis on whether it actually helps you out or not.

Either way it’s nice that the feature is there at all, and I hope other platforms like PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo adopt it one day too.
