One of the more underrated facets about Steam as a platform is how dynamic it is as a platform, offering gamers a ton of different ways to use it and benefit, beyond just buying games from the store for cash.
There are a ton of customisation options, ways to curate games and create lists, turning up the social elements of the platform in a way that you wouldn't usually expect from a digital store.
Steam has also historically been quite consumer friendly overall, giving players access to a ton of free games, as well as plenty of methods to acquire for cheaper prices or using alternate methods.
Now, fans are sharing one of those methods with each other, and you could easily forget about it if you aren't in the habit of checking in on it.
The Steam Marketplace is a Potential Gold Mine

Over on Reddit, one player shared a post reminding Steam users to take advantage of the Marketplace by selling the items that they don't want, which can easily add up to allow you to purchase that next game at no cost to yourself.
The comments were filled with people giving their own testimonials about the money that can be made using this method. "I sold around 4k cards last years that I collected over the span of a decade. Made $45 and some change. Good enough for me. I also have some really old CSGO items that have apparently skyrocket in value. Last I checked it was around 1k in value lol," one said.
"I made like $500 selling old factory new CSGO skins I bought from when I played near launch. Still have a couple rising in price, I sell when they get around $100," another added.
A third claimed, "When the Steam Deck launched I thought I'd go through my skins I had on games like Rust, I ended up having some skins I'd bought years prior that were worth a small fortune, a glowing face mask I sold for £80-90 alone, in the end I made about 70% of the cost of the Steam Deck."
You really could potentially be surprised by the value of some of the stuff you have kicking around on your Steam profile, particularly if you have had it for a while and have some older items in your collection.
Counter Strike-related items definitely have the most potential, but there are highly desirable items from other games, so get out there and give it a go.
