Steam has a great freebie available at the moment. One that gives users a chance to try out and enjoy a classic game, revamped for modern audiences.
Gothic was a banger when it was released back in 2001, giving players a fully voiced RPG for the first time, and creating a dark and mysterious story to unravel. Now it’s getting a remake and the demo is available on Steam.
Gothic is being remade from the ground up for modern audiences
Gothic 1 Remake will rebuild the original game from the ground up, and this demo provides an exclusive prologue to the game, never seen before.

Fans are, so far, loving what’s on offer, with many of them taking to the Steam reviews section to express their joy.
One player said, “It was refreshing to play an RPG demo that did not hold your hand and allowed me to learn the game on my own. I will definitely be purchasing this once it's released.”
While some are critical that the controls haven’t been polished from the original release, which was criticised back then as having awkward controls, many are still finding enjoyment here.
“Oh, hell yea. Can't wait for the remake,” exclaimed another player in their review.

Another fan, who has played the original game said this, “I felt nostalgic, relaxed, and immersed in the slightly "wooden" gameplay of good old Gothic. This demo is definitely a sign that Alkimia is going in the right direction with this production. I’m very intrigued and looking forward to the finished product!”
From the positive comments, it seems that THQ Nordic has a winner on their hands, and a visit to this old franchise could prove successful enough to create a whole new entry.
Of course, the full game is still some way off, but if you want to get a taste of what’s to come, this prologue is winning over players.
