Steam free RPG download inundated with 10/10 reviews

So many games, so little time

2024 has been a surprisingly huge year for video games, to the point I'm honestly struggling to keep up.

Many of you will probably have forgotten the brilliant Dragon's Dogma 2 launched this year.

That's in addition to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Astro Bot, and Star Wars Outlaws. Oh, and so many indies that I could cry just thinking about how many I still need to play.

As if there wasn't already enough to get through, we now have yet another absolute banger. The good news is you can download and try it for free via Steam. The bad? It just make take over whatever time you had left this year.

Metaphor ReFantazio is the new RPG from Persona studio Atlus, and the reviews have been unanimous: this game slaps.

Our very own Dan Lipscombe popped a 9/10 score on this meaty fantasy adventure, naming it one of the best adventures of the year.

"Metaphor examines what it is to be human in a world filled with war, xenophobia, and an imbalance of societal wealth," he wrote in his review.

"Yes, it has castles, fairies, dragons, and the most unique approach to magic I’ve seen outside of literature, but Atlus doesn’t stray from a story built on modern ideas, which is what we’ve come to expect from them."

Dan isn't alone in this assessment. Metaphor is already one of the best-reviewed games of the year, with many giving it perfect or near-perfect scores.

While I didn't play the game for review, I've put around 30 hours into it and would agree it's an absolute beast of a game. I can't recommend it enough.

If that's piqued your interest, you can download a generously sized demo from Steam now that'll introduce you to the world and characters. Just be aware, this is a huge game, but one worth playing.

Don't say we didn't warn you.
