If you’re a Resident Evil fan, especially of the old-school variety, then you’ll want to check out this survival horror homage on Steam.
As much as we love modern-day horror games, such as Resident Evil Requiem, which launched earlier this year, we love nothing more than to play some retro survival horror goodness.
Today, we can play the classic Resident Evil trilogy on PC and PlayStation, as well as its Jurassic Park-inspired, Dino Crisis. However, when it comes to paying homage to the survival horror games of yesteryear, the ever-vibrant indie community also has us covered with a plethora of fantastic games.
One game that pays homage to the likes of classic Resident Evil games is called Vultures, developed and published by the indie team at Team Vultures (a name right on the nose).
However, rather than just being a typical tank-controlled old-school horror game, Vultures takes inspiration from classic RPG games by having turn-based combat. I suppose, kind of like Parasite Eve back in the day.

“Inspired by some of the most foundational Survival Horror franchises like Resident Evil, Vultures embraces a retro PS1 aesthetic with mechanics that lead to a tense, horror-filled exploration. Isolated as a single agent in the dark halls of the city, every choice could lead to a successful mission or death,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.
“A once bustling metropolis, Salento Valley now lies as a desolate battleground in the wake of a bio-hazard disaster. An enigmatic client has hired the Vultures, a small group of mercenaries specialised in infiltration, to enter the quarantine zone and uncover the origin of the infection, hoping to find a cure. Now, you will face increasingly challenging odds as you make your way through the city's ruins. Horrifying mutants and abominations lay in wait for fresh blood like you.”
The Vultures trailer shown above is from two years ago, but judging by the trailer on its Steam page, it looks like the game has improved a lot since that trailer was uploaded to YouTube.
You’ll have to be a little patient to play the full game, but thankfully, you can get a sample of Vultures today by downloading its free playable demo via Steam.
“It presents a pitch-perfect take on the '90s horror styling turned into a tactics-type experience,” wrote TechRaptor.
“I'm looking forward to the finished game and can only recommend all fans of survival horror and turn-based tactics to take a look at the demo,” said Eurogamer.
You’ll not have to wait long to play the full game, because Vultures will arrive in its final form on 13 May 2026 on PC via Steam.
