If you’re a fan of the beloved co-op game, It Takes Two, then there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this free Steam alternative.
In 2018, Electronic Arts developer Hazelight Studios released A Way Out, a co-op game that required two players to work together to escape prison and survive a life on the run. It’s a fantastic game, and one that we’d highly recommend.
In 2021, Hazelight Studios returned with another fantastic co-op game, this time, the more family-friendly It Takes Two. Then last year, we were treated to yet another critically acclaimed co-op adventure with sci-fi offering Split Fiction.
However, as of right now, while Hazelight Studios does have something new cooking behind the scenes, we have no idea what that new project is. So, what can we do in the meantime, I hear you ask?
As the sub-heading mentions above, if you’re looking for a solid It Takes Two alternative and something to tide you over until Hazelight Studios’ next game arrives, then look no further than We Were Here Tomorrow, developed and published by the indie folks at Total Mayhem Games.

“You and your partner are taken to a mysterious facility where communication and cooperation are your lifelines. This asymmetrical co-op adventure will have you uncover secrets that will shape the fate of tomorrow,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.
The gameplay trailer for We Were Here Tomorrow looks like the game will require players to solve plenty of puzzles, traverse outer space, and uncover the secrets of the galaxy. The visuals also look rather charming, and there’s something cosy about its soundtrack.
At the time of writing, We Were Here Tomorrow does not have a confirmed release date other than a tentative 2026 launch window. However, you can download and play its free demo now courtesy of Steam.
You'll want to act quickly as the demo is only sticking around until Thursday 16 April.
You may also be pleased to know that We Were Here Tomorrow is coming to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It might also be worth adding the game to your wishlist on the platform of your choosing to be notified when its release date drops.
