Steam Festive Free Game Secures 10/10 Rating From Players

This festive, cosy-looking free Steam game is already proving to be a hit with reviewers on the platform, which is probably why it's managed to earn itself a perfect 10/10 rating on the storefront.

You know, I feel like there’s always a lot of talk about the best Christmas movies, like Die Hard, Home Alone, and It’s a Wonderful Life, but the topic of the best Christmas video game is something I rarely see discussed online.

Perhaps it's because the majority of Christmas-themed games are essentially just shovelware, but there are a few festive bangers out there.

My personal favourite will probably never be topped, and that’s because it’s an absolute heater of a game: Batman: Arkham Origins. Sure, there’s not exactly much in the way of competition, but the game still slaps regardless.

Well, I highly doubt that today’s free Christmas title is going to knock a Batman game off the top spot for me, yet even I have to admit that it could be in contention for the number two spot on my festive gaming top ten list.

This Winter of Ours is a beautiful 2D visual novel from developer and publisher VARIA over on Steam, and it can be yours to download and keep for free... forever, by the looks of things. No rush, I guess, although it seems like this might be an odd one to play in January.

Now, maybe it’s just because it’s free, or maybe it’s more to do with the fact that it features cute anime women, but This Winter is Ours is currently sitting at a respectable “Positive” score on Steam, with 100% of its 31 reviews being positive.

So what exactly about this game has got the reviewers feeling so complimentary this holiday season? I’ll leave it to a couple of the reviewers on Steam to explain that one for me.

“A pretty sweet short story thats not afraid to get a tad more serious at times, and while the small amount of roughness around the edges is a bit noticeable at times, its actually quite charming and only adds to the reading experience, which i loved pretty much every single second of~” writes Steam reviewer bredthespectator.

“This is a pretty short and sweet visual novel. The story can be serious and very tender at points. I think the characters are fun and I really liked the story,” writes Steam user CowboyTal.

“The art style is also very pretty. I think for the vibe the game is going for, it captures it really well with the color palette and character designs.”

Sounds like an all-round wholesome little game to me, maybe I’ll finally buck my Christmas tradition and give this one a go this year.

On second thought, nah, I’m just gonna play Batman: Arkham Origins again, but they almost had me!
