Steam has just dropped a new free game that currently has a 9/10 user score, and you shouldn’t miss it.

Free games launch on Steam quite regularly, and it can be pretty overwhelming when deciding what to play.

After all, if your games library consists solely of free games, you’d be there all year with a constant stream of new things to play.

Dreadtome is a chaotic mix of Doom and BioShock, and it’s certainly one for FPS fans who want a new gory, intense shooter to play.

It’s set inside a large corrupt library that is populated with hostile monsters, where your goal is to extract forbidden knowledge from the books located within.

In terms of weapons, you’re given a firearm to shoot and a repulser ability to use, and you can also use environmental hazards to dispatch enemies. These tools can be upgraded to make them stronger as you inevitably face larger foes.

Dreadtome is free to keep on Steam, so all you need to do is go onto the official store listing for it and click Add to Library.

With a 91% positive rating, it quickly became one of the best rated free games released in recent memory, higher than Marvel Rivals and Rainbow Six Siege X.

Reviews are praising the game for its interesting writing, level design, and fun weapons. The game only lasts for about 30 minutes, but many report that it’s a good use of that time if you have a spare half hour to kill.

Dreadtome is a project by third-year university students from the Breda University of Applied Sciences, a university in the Netherlands.

The team is collectively known as Tinfoil Rats, and it’ll be interesting to see if the developer stays together to make another game in the future.

Dreadtome is available now on Steam.
