Steam users have a dozen games to add to their library right now to give you a break from the latest AAA releases.
We’ve had some bangers so far but you’d be forgiven for wanting something a little smaller to play; fortunately, Steam has your back.
Kicking off with Fragments of Dread - False Haven, this is an episodic series where each episode tackles a different story, always representing some sort of emotion or feeling such as fear. It gives you a bit of variety so do check it out.
Next is Tiny Terrors which I thought would be a game similar to Little Nightmares based on the title alone, but I was wrong. Tiny Terrors is an adorable top-down adventure where you play as a little ghost exploring a town, perfect for Halloween.

We’ve got Bat Blitz next. Not much to this one, it feels like a Vampire Survivors clone. Enough said.
Next up we have Blazing-Maidens and unfortunately, this is the same story as Bat Blitz; it's another Vampire Survivors clone.
Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is up next and this one is a little different. It’s an MMORPG where you “create your own hero, team up for strategic raids, or simply relax and have fun with friends fishing, crafting, and endless exploration”.
Zombie Hunter looks like a fun one if not a little simplistic. Your mission is to survive a bleak, apocalyptic world led by the undead in this first-person shooter.

If you want something a little cosy and calming, Path of the Sphere might be the one for you. It’s about sliding ball puzzles where you tilt the maze to allow the ball to roll through to the end.
Cosmic Cargo is next and while racking my brain to come up with titles it’s similar to, the best I could think of was Dredge. You build and pilot your own ship as you transport goods across the galaxy.
Arguably the weirdest game on this list so far is o_Ossel´s Odyssey. This is a “quirky 2.5D side-scrolling platformer” that’s attempting to recapture the magic of the old-school Rayman games.
Another horror game worth playing this Halloween is The House She Haunts where you survive a haunted house that hides a possessed doll inside.

Next is Ship Battle, which really doesn’t have a whole lot going for it. You just battle ships. It’s free though so there’s that.
Finally, Genesis is a “first-person survival horror” where players must explore and survive a creepy village full of threats, very Resident Evil-like.
All of the above free games are available to enjoy now.
