Steam drops dozens of free downloads in limited-time giveaway

This limited-time event isn't even visible on the Steam storefront homepage

It’s time for another limited-time Steam event, but this one has a little bit of a twist to it. This one could take a little bit of explaining, so strap in.

So, if you’re the type of Steam user to check the store homepage every day, you might be slightly confused already.

If you’re in, for instance, the United Kingdom, you might find that there isn’t actually a Steam event that’s taking place right now. You might be thinking that I’ve completely lost the plot.

The thing is, the Steam event that’s currently running isn’t being advertised on the store page. Last week the Steam's Automation Fest was front and centre on the Steam page, so why isn’t this one?

Well, I can’t actually answer that question for you. I did some light research, and came up short. But that may be the language barrier at play.

What I can do, however, is direct you to the webpage for the 2025 Steam China Showcase. From there, you can then log in to Steam via your web browser, and view the event properly.

You might be wondering if, considering the roundabout way of accessing the event, if the discounts and free demos featured are even available elsewhere.

After logging in myself and cross-referencing a few things, I can confirm that everything featured in the 2025 Steam China Showcase is also accessible in the United Kingdom, so I assume it’ll be the same in every other region.

If you want my best guess as to why this isn’t being advertised through the Steam client itself, I think it may have something to do with Steam’s China-specific storefront.

Regulations and internet access in general are a lot stricter in China, so it would appear that Valve had to create a storefront specific to China itself to even operate there.

Whatever the reason, we can still take advantage of everything on offer this year. Just grab what you want while you still can, because you only have until July 28 before the 2025 Steam China Showcase ends.
