Powered by Steam but optimised for gaming in any form, the Steam Controller is set to launch in early 2026 but potential users have already been sharing their thoughts over this exciting piece of hardware.
Set to release alongside the brand new Steam Machine and Steam Frame, the Steam Controller is a brand-new version of the original which was launched back in 2015.
Built for Steam, it will allow players to play all of their Steam titles however they wish whether it is via PC, laptop, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and beyond.
The upcoming Steam Controller includes some game-changing features such as a Steam Controller Puck which will act as a wireless transmitter for a fast and stable connection but it will also be able to charge your controller with a satisfying click.

The Steam Controller also features next-generation magnetic thumbsticks, high definition rumble for immersive and accurate haptics, and grip-enabled gyro which will see you be able to aim with the controller itself.
What is perhaps most unusual about the Steam Controller’s design is its dual touchpads but according to Valve, this will allow users to play their favourite mouse and keyboard games with increased position and customisability.
“Steam Controller was designed with all the inputs for all your games,” the official Steam page reads.
“Paired with Steam Input, it’s the ultimate customisable controller. Thanks to its input parity with Steam Deck, Steam Controller will be pre-populated with community configurations for thousands of games from day one, or you can make and share your own.”

Set to launch in early 2026, there is not long to go before you can get your hands on the Steam Machine as well as its accompanying controller.

Users Are Feeling Giddy For This Upcoming Release
However, what do potential users think?

Well, the question was recently answered over on r/Steam.
“I find the touchpads to look a bit weird but hey maybe it'll come in handy when I'm browsing through the store or searching for something else,” its original poster shared.
“I'ma get one,” the top comment reads. “I've been wanting a Steam Deck-like controller forever.”
Another agreed, adding, “I thought the Steam Deck would be uncomfortable and the trackpads would be useless. I was so wrong and I'm so excited for a Steam controller.”

“I don’t need another controller but I want this,” user ZannyHip shared.
“The amount of extra tech they’ve packed into this thing is insane. Not just the pads, but capacitive sensors on the thumbsticks, triggers, and on the back of the grip? Like 4 extra buttons on the back. Their new joysticks sound cool.”
With the general consensus seemingly being that this Steam Controller will definitely be worth the purchase, let us hope that it lives up to expectations when it launches in early 2026.
