If you clicked on this article, then you’re most likely a Stardew Valley fan and it’s with that in mind that I know the following two things will appeal to you: pixel art graphics and the cosy act of fishing.

Stardew Valley features both, as does Steam’s latest freebie.

Cast n Chill is an upcoming cosy idle fishing game from developer Wombat Brawler, and while the full release doesn’t have a release date just yet, a free demo has just launched on Steam allowing you to try this delightful little game out.

Idle games admittedly aren’t for everyone, but if you are a fan of the genre, I have a feeling that Wombat Brawler has cooked up something special here.

Cast n Chill will see you do just that, “explore serene lakes, rivers, and oceans”, all whilst you “catch rare fish, upgrade your gear and reel in legendary catches”.

Oh, and you get a canine companion. What’s not to love?

I really urge you to go peruse the game’s Steam page because it’s perhaps a hard sell on paper; you have to visually see what Cast n Chill offers to understand its charm.

You can’t play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 every hour of the day, after all - or can you?

I’ve compared Cast n Chill to Stardew Valley, but there’s also a bit of a Dave The Diver feeling here too.

In the full game, there will be over 50 fish species to find and collect, but you can get started on the first five in the demo.

Already, the demo has received a ‘Very Positive’ review score just a few days after its launch.

“Cast n Chill is a BEAUTIFUL fishing game! The art style is gorgeous! I LOVE pixel games! The lo-fi music is relaxing and the little sounds you get when you get a catch is almost like the game is praising you,” wrote one Steam user.

They continued, “The fishing mechanic is great, no mini game, just hold space bar, but it's not THAT easy! You can't reel when the fish is tugging too hard on the line, so there is still some challenge to it. I can see me spending a LOT of time in this game.”

“That demo was exactly what I was expecting and more. What a gorgeous game and very chill. It gets my seal of approval,” added another.

Well, I know I’m downloading this one as we speak.
