One of the biggest RPGs of the year, Baldur's Gate III, is about to usurp Hogwarts Legacy, days after its initial release.

Despite making more money than the Harry Potter films, generating over $1 billion in revenue across Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms, Hogwarts Legacy is about to become old news.

The release of the highly-anticipated Baldur’s Gate III is about to knock the Wizarding World game out of the park, as it quickly aims to overtake it in terms of concurrent players on Steam.

Baldur’s Gate III has seen tremendous amounts of success since its launch a few days ago, absolutely smashing Steam records and dethroning some of its biggest titles in terms of players, including CS:GO.

Now, the title is taking aim at another critically-acclaimed RPG. At the time of writing, Baldur’s Gate III is reporting a peak of 814,660 concurrent players, which isn’t far behind Hogwarts Legacy, which is currently sitting at 879,308.

It’s not a surprise the game is doing so well, given how easily accessible it is, being able to run on standard PCs, Macbooks and even the Steamdeck.

That being said it’s got a bit further to climb before it can knock the beloved Harry Potter game off its pedestal, which it’ll no doubt do given its increasing popularity.

While thousands of players have already sunk hours into the game, console players are patiently waiting for their ports. A PlayStation 5 version is scheduled for release in September, but Xbox fans will have to wait a bit longer.

Baldur’s Gate III’s developers, Larian Studios, have said the Xbox port is taking longer than planned, largely due to the hardware of the Xbox Series S, which has since been slammed by fans. Luckily, Xbox players may soon have access to the first two Baldur’s Gate games via Xbox Game Pass, as recent leaks suggest the titles will soon be available for those on the subscription service.

Baldur’s Gate III is available to play right now on Steam.
