Fans of Cyberpunk 2077 and Borderlands might want to check out this game with rave reviews, especially as it’s free-to-play on Steam.
Despite its well-known launch woes, CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best sci-fi RPGs of this generation. No game has made me feel like I’m in the world of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner quite like this.
As for Borderlands, which could be somewhat considered to be part of the cyberpunk genre, is a very different offering with continuous fast-paced gameplay action set in a Mad Max-inspired post-apocalyptic world.

Check out the FragPunk trailer below!
So when a promising game comes along with vibes of both Cyberpunk 2077 and Borderlands, it’s worth a look. That game in question is the indie title, developed and published by Bad Guitar Studio, FragPunk.
The art style of FragPunk also reminds me a little of Overwatch, Valorant, with a touch of Fortnite, for what it’s worth.

“FragPunk is a thrilling 5v5 hero shooter where Shard Cards allow you to break the rules of combat and ensure that no two rounds are ever the same,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam. “Get ready to unleash your skills!”
FragPunk launched on Steam on 6 March 2025, and so far, from its over 37,000 user reviews, it has an impressive “Mostly Positive” rating.
“It's a nice shooter, and the card system in FragPunk is also nice. From time to time, it creates some funny moments,” wrote Steam user Jostaroxx.
“It’s the first FPS I've ever played where the weapons genuinely feel balanced. Not one weapon in the game would I deem overpowered,” said Robdog69.

“This is without a doubt the most fun shooter I've played in YEARS. It's basically ADHD, the shooter with constant new dopamine hits of new ideas and concepts,” exclaimed Pesky Bee.
It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that many of the Steam users mention the Kernel Level anti-cheat software, which has raised some virus concerns and reportedly stays on your PC even if FragPunk is uninstalled.
FragPunk is out now and is free-to-play, but does have the typical microtransaction push for this type of game, also judging by the user reviews.
