For those hoping to check out Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, you can do so now thanks to a new free demo.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is launching later this week, and is set to be a pretty interesting detective game that blends Lovecraftian horror and smart detective gameplay.

If you’re a fan of Lovecraftian lore, it sounds like it’ll be one you won’t want to miss. And in case you wanted to check it out before buying, a new free demo is available to play on Steam.

However, you won’t have long to play the demo, as it’s being removed on launch day, which is 16 April.

“We’re pleased to announce that the demo for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is now available again on Steam, and will remain playable until the full launch on April 16th,” reads the blog post by Big Bad Wolf, developer of Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss.

“Whether you’re entering the abyss for the first time or returning to uncover more, this demo gives you access to the full first chapter and the beginning of the second.”

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss' Demo Features The First Two Chapters

The demo will give you access to many of the features that are available in the full game, such as the investigation mechanic which allows you to collect clues and piece together facts regarding the central mystery.

You will also get to use the sonar, where you can search for specific materials and navigate the darkness of the underwater mining rig.

Finally, you will also get an early glimpse of the game’s sanity system, a gameplay mechanic which changes your experience depending on how much of Cthulhu’s influence has spread upon you.

In case you’re interested in checking it out, be sure to head to the Steam store page for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss and download the demo from there.

The blurb on Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss reads: “2053. Across the globe, the occult threat grows ever more blatant, and strange, incomprehensible events multiply. As the Earth's surface resources dwindle, powerful corporations turn to the uncharted depths of the oceans, unaware of the ancient horror they are about to awaken.

“In this tense Lovecraftian thriller, you play Noah, tasked with investigating the mysterious disappearance of miners in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. With the help of your AI companion, Key, explore the vast, labyrinthine prison of R'lyeh—an ancient, sunken city of cyclopean proportions—and resist the creeping madness caused by Cthulhu's influence. At its core lies a secret that could shatter your understanding of reality.”
