Released for Xbox and Steam earlier this year, Redfall got absolutely slammed with poor reviews and reception from fans.

The vampire-survival first-person shooter was filled to the brim with performance issues and bugs and was also deemed to be just plain boring in terms of its gameplay. It also didn’t help the game was locked at 30fps, despite releasing exclusively for the Xbox Series X/S which can do 60fps.

Following the game’s rocky launch, it was reported that Arkane, famous for making the Dishonoured series, was initially annoyed that the game was being pushed as a multiplayer experience. Its development was so misguided, that Arkane hoped Microsoft would intervene and cancel it entirely.

This obviously didn’t happen, and the game is now stuck on store pages, usually at a discounted price, or free thanks to Xbox Game Pass, though that has stopped the player count from being abysmal.

At the time of writing, Redfall has seen a peak of 59 concurrent players on Steam in the last 24 hours, though last week that peak was as low as six players, barely enough to form a full team in the multiplayer.

In a surprising turn of events though, the game’s low engagement hasn’t deterred Bethesda from supporting the game further, as updates are still rolling out with fixes and improvements.

Pete Hines, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications at Bethesda recently stated: "We are the same company that has had launches that didn't go the way we wanted, and we don't quit or abandon stuff just because it didn't start right," no doubt referencing the equally shocking launch of Fallout 76.

While Redfall is arguably in a much worse state than Fallout 76 was, not even having a big name like Fallout to back it up, it’s almost commendable that Bethesda isn’t giving up on the game just yet.

Redfall is available for PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X/S via Xbox Game Pass.
