Assassin’s Creed meets Lord Of The Rings in free Steam download

You can be stealthy like an assassin, but it's more fantastical – and there's dragons!

Steam is delivering the goods once more, this time in the form of a free demo that’ll tick all the right boxes for Lord of the Rings and Assassin’s Creed fans.

If you’re someone who’s making their way through all the mainline AC titles, we have a handy guide that ranks them from worst to best. However, for those of you who want to play something different yet familiar, we’d like to point you to Steam’s Middle Earth: Shadow of War.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War looks epic, right?

Have you just finished watching the cinematic greatness that is LOTR the Battle of Helm’s Deep? Then you’ll definitely be in the mood to continue soaking up all that brutality, drama, and fantastical atmosphere that it delivers, only this time you get to control the battlefield for yourself.

What is more, thanks to Middle Earth: Shadow of War, there’s a lot more of a contemporary feel added to the lore, with the in-game mechanics making this a unique take on the saga of Lord Sauron.

“This is easily in my top 10 favourite games of all time. I've easily clocked over hundreds of hours on this game on console, and bought it on here again because I loved the game that much,” posted one fan.

Another Steam review read, “One of the best games ever played.” They continued, “[The] story, gameplay, graphics, AI, music – everything is great. [I] installed it again recently to complete DLCs and achievement and [the] game still holds and it’s still fun” A review that reads miles better than any Jo Koy made at the Golden Globes 2024.

If you want to play a game that “stands the test of time”, you need to head over to Valve’s platform and download the demo. The game itself will cost you money, but the demo is free. And when there’s a freebie to be had, we’ll always take that before having to dip into our bank account.

We hope you fare well in the battles ahead!
