Skate 4 playtests are headed to console, EA confirms

After a year of being locked to PC, EA has confirmed that playtests for skate. (the rather confusing official name for Skate 4) are coming to console, finally allowing more fans to dive into the action.

Playtests for skate. (that uncapitalised name hurts my soul) began last July, letting fans see what EA has been cooking up behind the scenes. We still don’t know when the game is actually going to release in full, but the playtests have at least been enough to tide fans over. Well, those who own a PC and were lucky enough to be selected, anyway.

In a new blog post on the skate. website, the developers have been reflecting on the past year of playtesting: “To date, we’ve primarily been prioritising one fundamental thing: finding the fun,” they wrote. “From pop-up challenges to our new collaborative building areas, and adding new tricks like firecrackers, wallies and slappies. We want to get everything to that sweet spot that feels and plays like the Skate you know and love.

“Many of you have already jumped into the playtests over the last year and we are continuously reviewing all of the feedback, bugs, issues and ideas that you've shared with us,” they continued. “For those that haven't had the chance yet, don’t worry - there are still many playtests to come!”

The post was rounded off with a promising update for console gamers: “We also want to give a shout out to the console skate. community - yes, we are still currently only playtesting on PC but we promise console playtesting will be coming. We don’t have a date to share just yet, but stay tuned.”

Okay, so there’s no timescale, which doesn’t suggest that it’s going to happen any time soon, nor were we given any hints as to when the full game is going to launch. With that in mind, we’ve probably still got quite a wait ahead of us, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
