Tomb Raider Surprise Delay Leaves Players Confused

The title was originally set to launch next week

An upcoming Tomb Raider game re-release has received a surprise delay, leaving fans confused and upset.

It may have been a long time since the last major Tomb Raider game, but Crystal Dynamics has been busy ensuring Lara Croft's classic adventures remain accessible on modern gaming platforms.

As much as we enjoy the Survivor Trilogy, for example, it's very important that the older games in the series get added to newer platforms. This way, everyone can experience these games no matter how old or young they are.

As revealed by the PlayStation Store earlier this month, Lara Croft was set to make a return to the PlayStation Store with a new re-release of Tomb Raider: Anniversary on PS5 and PS4.

The re-release was intended to be the PS2 version of the game, which would presumably be available to buy on the PlayStation Store as well as available on PlayStation Plus Premium.

The original release date for this was 21st October, as shown on the store page for the game. However, when Sony revealed this month's newest additions to PlayStation Plus, Tomb Raider: Anniversary was suspiciously absent.

The date on the store page was then quietly changed, with a new date of 18th November, 2025 added. Hopefully, this is the last time the game will see such a delay as it seems like the perfect title at this time of the year.

Some fans were confused by the delay though, as this isn't something that normally happens with regards to Sony's PlayStation Plus drops.

"Didn't the original date say it would come out October 21st?" wrote one fan on the Tomb Raider Reddit page. "Now it says November 18... is this the store-version and the game will still be added to the classics collection on October 21st? I am confused because suddenly I can't find the October date anymore."

"Obviously if the date has changed to next month then it's no longer part of the classics collection this month," wrote another fan. "I wonder what the reason for the delay is though."

It seems that no official answer has been given by either Sony or Crystal Dynamics. Perhaps it's a bug caught at the last minute, or maybe Sony is just hoping to spread out its classics catalogue releases for the rest of the year.

As it stands, Lara fans are now marking their calendars for 18th November, 2025, to be able to play Tomb Raider: Anniversary again on PS5 and PS4.
