A free download for The Last of Us Part II Remastered has been announced and it’s coming soon.

When Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Part II Remastered in 2024 for PlayStation 5, it came with not only improved visuals and performance but also lost levels that were cut from the original game as well as a new mode called ‘No Return’.

In our review of The Last of Us Part II Remastered, we said: “We all thought Part II was Naughty Dog’s magnum opus but Part II Remastered shows that there’s plenty more gas in the tank. If this is insight into what’s to come from the studio, I cannot wait to see what Naughty Dog is cooking up next.”

This week, Naughty Dog has announced that we can soon claim free DLC for The Last of Us Part II Remastered on both PlayStation 5 and PC for the aforementioned new mode, ‘No Return’.

One of the features of ‘No Return’ is that we can play multiple characters from The Last of Us universe, not just Joel and Ellie. Each character comes with unique abilities and gameplay styles, but you can also unlock new skins via progression.

Announced this week, Bill and Marlene will be joining ‘No Return’ on 3 April 2025 when The Last of Us Part II Remastered comes to PC and the new content launches on PS5 the same day via a new patch.

Bill can access a custom pump-action shotgun to help fight off waves of infected, while Marlene can access a custom assault rifle.

What’s more, four new maps will be added to ‘No Return’, namely Overlook “set high above the city of Seattle and features plenty of verticality”. School is an “abandoned elementary school in which Ellie and Dina face off against the W.L.F.”

Streets is set in the “overgrown Seattle neighbourhood of Hillcrest” and finally Nest takes place in a building full of infected, a location players visited during an Abby segment of the campaign. They’ll also be new trophies to acquire.

Recent PlayStation first-party titles that have come to PC once had a mandatory requirement to sign into a PSN account to play on Steam. Following fan backlash, this later became optional.

However, if you do sign into a PSN account to play The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PC, you’ll be rewarded with 50 in-game points to unlock new content for ‘No Return’.

Not only that but you will be gifted with a new skin for Ellie that features the jacket for the character Jordan, the star of Naughty Dog’s new and upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This content will also be available on PS5.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet does not have a release date at the time of writing but we do know that it will be released on PlayStation 5.
