New gameplay for the Silent Hill 2 remake has been shown off during PlayStation’s State Of Play event.

State Of Play is giving us all the details on several upcoming PlayStation releases, including a surprise announcement of another Silent Hill game, as well as the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2, and if the gameplay is anything to go off, fans are in for a horror experience like never before.

Check out the trailer for Silent Hill 2 remake below.

The new gameplay takes us back to that spooky town we all know and love (or hate), giving us an in-depth look at the fresh horrors that await us on our return. We saw the protagonist James Sunderland creeping around some decrepit locations, and bashing monsters with whatever weapons he could find.

It looks terrifyingly good, and exactly what fans of the series have been waiting for. The scariest part is just how dark everything looks, it’ll surely test the resolve of even the most seasoned horror game veterans.

That wasn't the only surprise announcement PlayStation sprung on us though, like a cheap jumpscare it also hit us with yet another Silent Hill game, a spin-off called Silent Hill: The Short Message.

The pleasant surprise introduces fans to a new protagonist called Anita, who's seemingly in for her own night of frights with gameplay eerily similar to PT. Whether it has any relevance to the events of Silent Hill 2 or is simply being released to tide us over until it launches remains a mystery.

You can play Silent Hill: The Short Message for yourself right now on PS5 as it shadow dropped for free during the showcase.

The Silent Hill 2 remake will be release exclusively for the PlayStation 5 later this year, though we don't have an exact date of launch yet.
