The PlayStation 6 is a hell of a lot closer than we all collectively assumed, based on recently leaked information regarding a cancelled game from a developer close to Sony.
Considering there was only about seven years between the release of the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5, it could be argued that a successor to the PS5 wouldn’t be too ridiculous in a couple of years time.
But I don’t think I’m the only one who feels like the current generation of consoles still feels young. Maybe it was COVID, or maybe it’s the underwhelming library of first-party games, but either way it just feels like seeing a new Xbox or a new PlayStation in 2027 just seems too soon.

Well, sucks for me I guess, because it seems like the release date of the PlayStation 6 just got leaked… and it seems to be dropping at some point in 2027.
This info comes by way of Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw and their report on a cancelled Blade Runner game from developer Supermassive Games.
Although Insider Gaming wasn’t allowed to directly share the document the leak stems from, Straw notes that the “full release” for Supermassive Games’ Blade Runner: Time to Live “was planned for September 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the 'Gen 10' Xbox and PlayStation systems”.
Now, I know what you’re thinking– what if Supermassive Games is just guessing that there will be a “Gen 10” PS6 in 2027?

That’s unlikely, considering that Supermassive Games’ parent company, Nordisk, is actually a partner of PlayStation. That’s why a lot of folks are taking this leak seriously, because they’re working under the assumption that Nordisk knows something that we don’t.
Here’s hoping they are just guessing, though. I don’t think I’m quite ready to say goodbye to this generation of consoles yet, especially when it feels like it’s barely gotten off the ground.
