An industry expert believes that Sony’s PlayStation 6 could be more expensive than any previous generation at launch, but it might not be as bad as some thought.
It’s not a secret that video games and consoles are getting more expensive than ever, regardless of whether we play on PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo. This year alone, each of the console brands has increased in price, which is odd, considering that we’re edging closer to the next generation every day.
Take, for example, Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro. This enhanced console has an RRP of £699.99, and that’s without a disc drive and official vertical stand. Both of those items, which were typically included in the box, will cost an extra £94.98. So, all in, we’re looking at around £795.
The PlayStation 5 Pro also broke a standard of the previous generation by being more expensive than its predecessor. When the original PlayStation 4 launched in 2013, it had an RRP of £349.99, and when the Pro version launched a few years later, it was the same price.
How Much With the PlayStation 6 Cost?
However, when the PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, the digital-only console was £359.99 (it’s now £429.99), and the disc version was £449.99 (it’s now £479.99).

Unfortunately for our wallets, it makes sense that the PlayStation 6 should be more expensive than either the standard PlayStation 5 or the PS5 Pro, right?
As shared in a Reddit post, reported by Action, a financial expert predicts that the PlayStation 6 could see a rise of about $150 to $200.
The expert doesn't specify which console, whether it’s with or without a disc drive, but I like to assume it’s based on the standard PlayStation 5 price as it is today.

Let’s assume it’s the base PlayStation 5 at the price it is now, with a £100 increase that comes with the disc drive.
We could be looking at around £600 to £700, which might not be as bad as some feared.
Granted, it’s still a lot more expensive than any PlayStation console at launch, but if the PlayStation 6 with a disc drive is the same or less than a PlayStation 5 Pro with a disc drive, that’s not too bad, in my humble opinion.
That being said, Sony had better throw in a vertical stand this time.
Of course, this is pure speculation at this point, so we should take it all with a pinch of salt until Sony releases the official details and with the PlayStation 6 expected to launch sometime during late 2027 to early 2028, hopefully, we’ll know sooner rather than later.
