It is easy to forget that, behind the scenes, building the latest console is no easy feat for companies such as Microsoft and Sony.
After all, we all saw the demands for the PlayStation 5 when it launched back in 2020.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scalpers, and subsequent stock shortages, finding a PS5 to purchase was like finding a needle in a haystack with many customers not getting their hands on one until at least a year later.
With rumours that the PlayStation 6 is in the early stages of development, in the meantime, Sony will have to keep up with the demands of both the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Pro but a new issue has arisen.

Spotted by Push Square, a RAM crisis may just spell trouble for the PlayStation 6.
Although it has been reported that Sony has stockpiled enough parts to keep the PS5 fairly affordable for the foreseeable future, Micron has since revealed that it will stop supplying RAM and memory to consumers from February 2026.
Instead, it will be supplying its products to AI-driven data centers.

A Statement by Micron Does Not Bode Well
This comes after OpenAI revealed that it would be purchasing over 40 percent of the world’s global supply of RAM after making deals with other companies such as Samsung.

In recent days, Micron provided the following statement: “The AI-driven growth in the data centre has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.
"Thanks to a passionate community of consumers, the Crucial brand has become synonymous with technical leadership, quality and reliability of leading-edge memory and storage products.
"We would like to thank our millions of customers, hundreds of partners and all of the Micron team members who have supported the Crucial journey for the last 29 years.”
This RAM crisis will no doubt affect the PC market the most but it will also have major consequences for the development of the PlayStation 6 and its subsequent stock numbers.

So it seems as though the PS6 is running into troubles already which does not bode well for the future of Sony’s hardware.
Then there's what Xbox is doing with its supposed PC / console hybrid. Interesting, and worrying, times.
