The PlayStation 5 price-hike came into effect last week meaning all of Sony’s new-gen consoles have become wildly more expensive. However Sony itself is giving gamers one last chance to upgrade on the cheap.
As of 2 April 2026, all base PlayStation 5, all-digital PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles have seen an increase in price.
Even the handheld PlayStation Portal was affected, making it an arguably even worse deal than it already was for the majority of gamers.
For those who are yet to upgrade to a new-gen console it might be worth hanging on until the PlayStation 6, though the current price of the PS5 Pro doesn’t exactly make that plan appealing either…

There is a workaround coming from PlayStation’s own store, but you don’t have long to take advantage.
While the majority of PlayStation 5 consoles are listed with their new prices on the official PlayStation store there’s a surprising number of consoles that are heavily discounted.
Refurbished consoles are considerably cheaper as they’ve had some work done to them, but some gamers might be able to acquire a brand-new PlayStation 5 for even less.
Some fans have reported that the Playstation 5 Fortnite Bundle is still being sold at its regular price, unaffected by the recent price-hikes.
The console is all-digital and comes with Fortnite pre-installed on the system, which isn’t exactly a console-seller considering Fortnite is free-to-play anyway.
That actually works to your favour though, as the reason these bundles are so cheap is because Sony still has stock leftover that it hasn’t been able to sell yet.
It’s speculated that the reason they haven’t been affected by the price-hike is because they were made prior to manufacturing cost increases.
So if you can grab one you’re actually getting a pretty good deal, as long as you’re happy with your console being digital only of course.
The only downside is time isn’t on your side with this one, as there’s obviously a limited amount of consoles left and plenty of gamers right now looking for a good deal.
For those who are yet to upgrade and want a cheeky little discount it’s worth checking out the PlayStation store online and seeing if there are any Fortnite bundles left. If not, a refurbished console might be your only choice if you don’t want to pay a fortune.
