An upcoming free PlayStation 5 game is bringing together the most eclectic mix of guest characters I’ve ever seen in a video game, and lovers of lesser-known RPGs are going to want to wishlist this one well ahead of time.

Thank you in advance to Push Square's Sammy Barker for their original article!

Infinite Alliance, an upcoming gacha RPG from developer Critical Games and publisher Electric Airship, is set to release for free in 2026... and it seems there's no catch.

As revealed in the trailer for the game on Electric Airship’s official YouTube channel, all proceeds from the game will be donated to charity.

And while there will be optional purchases, it seems they’re in no way necessary if you simply want to play through the game and unlock the roster. It is, by the sounds of what the publisher is saying, a wholly free-to-play game.

Speaking of the roster, this one has an odd list of characters to choose from, all of which seem to have originated in indie RPGs.

You've got (to name a few) characters from Eternal Remnant, Glenn from Chained Echoes, the protagonist from 8-Bit Adventures 2, Drago from Beloved Rapture, and Alexandra from Quartet.

Honestly, there are even a couple of characters in here I’ve never heard of, and y’know, this is kind of my job, so… they must be some real deep cuts.

The full roster hasn’t been revealed either, so I have a feeling we’ll hear some much bigger names close to release. I’d be very surprised if characters from Shovel Knight don’t turn up, considering the titular protagonist from that series seems to show up in every indie-crossover game ever made.

No exact release date on this one beyond a tentative 2026 release, but it sounds like it’ll be dropping on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam when it eventually does.
