The heady days where you could head down to your local supermarket and pick up a point and click PC game themed around Sherlock Holmes may be behind us, but the genre is very much alive and kicking if you're willing to look in the right places.
Though they obviously aren't for everyone, particularly if you're looking for the patented mixture of high-octane gameplay and loud gun noises, they are actually quite pleasant to sit down with and work through after a hard day on the job.
Whilst games like Grim Fandango and Myst will likely sit at the top of the tree for a while yet, there are some great options out there, and you don't even need to head back in time 20+ years to find them.
With that in mind, three games of that ilk have just been added to the PlayStation 5, with more on the way, that look quite pleasant to play through if you're looking for something to do when evening rolls around.

The Lost Lands Series Arrives on PS5
If you're a PS5 player, the first three games of the Lost Lands series has just dropped on the console, with more on the way in relatively short order.
Lost Lands 1: Dark Overlord, Lost Lands 2: The Four Horseman and Lost Lands 3: The Golden Curse are all now available to download at absolutely no cost to the player. The fourth and fifth games are also on the way in the near future, with likely plenty more to come.
The original game follows Susan as she attempts to rescue her son, who was rather inconveniently pulled through a portal into another world. To get him back, she needs to follow him through, follow the clues and track him down.
That story sprawls out into something considerably bigger, with the following stories all relating to Susan's efforts in the first game.
Developer Five-BN Games is supposedly planning on releasing the entire series on the console, with more than ten games in the franchise so far that could debut in the next year or so.
The cool news for trophy hunters is that every one of the games comes with plenty for you to get, and you can secure almost all of them just by working your way through the story.
As mentioned previously, the first three are available to download for free right now, with the fourth game releasing on an unnamed date this month.
