Some PS4 owners aren’t taking the recent announcement of this game’s removal from the PlayStation Store well (and I probably wouldn’t be either, if I’d spent as much money on it as they have).

Earlier this week, developer MiHoYo and publisher HoYoverse announced something we'd all seen coming for quite some time: Genshin Impact is being removed from the PlayStation 4 storefront and will no longer be playable on the platform as of April 2026.

To clarify, Genshin Impact will remain playable on PlayStation 5 systems past this point, and isn’t being delisted from any other consoles or platforms other than the PlayStation 4.

Still, that doesn’t help the folks that only own PlayStation 4s (and have assumedly already dropped a bunch of money on the gacha title).

Case in point, quite a few people over on the r/gachagaming subreddit aren’t taking the news too well.

“Wait stop is this real??” commented user Pure_Neighborhood474.

“Can I save all my progress by switching to a PS5?? SOMEBODY SEDATE ME IM GOING TO GO NUTS.”

“I should've had patience and not bought a PS4 Pro five years back. As soon as it was delivered, PS5 released,” replied user Siri_BUS.

“Even though I upgraded recently to PS5 I know how bad this sucks for the current PS4 only players,” commented user PapaGrinch.

“I can empathise, cause in another time and place this could've been someone that's still playing Genshin on PS4. I'm also not ignorant enough to not understand that everyone doesn't have the means to do the same things.”

While I obviously understand why some folks are upset, this does seem like somewhat of an inevitability.

Genshin Impact was released in 2020, and the base model PS4 dropped in 2013. Considering that the game already runs quite poorly on the system, further updates are only going to make the experience even worse.

Here’s hoping these folks have enough time to save up for a system that can run it, otherwise, all those gacha purchases are going to go to waste.
