PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers are left up in arms as they’ve not been able to stream PS3 games for over three weeks. Despite the fix being removed from Reddit, we've saved the workaround which you might find handy.
One of the perks of subscribing to the top PlayStation Plus Premium tier is that you’re able to access a classic library filled with retro goodness from the PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and PS Vita.
However, unlike the PS1, PSP, and PS Vita games, which can be downloaded to the PlayStation console, PS2 and PS3 games have to be streamed. For the most part, streaming games will be fine for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 gamers, but quality can dip depending on the current broadband connection.
Unfortunately, another issue with streaming games on PlayStation is that if there’s an issue on Sony’s end, those games might not be accessible for a multitude of reasons, which it sounds like what is happening right now.
PS3 Games Are Still Unplayable
Since 19 January 2026, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers have not been able to stream PS3 games. As far as I can tell, Sony hasn't explained why this is happening. Obviously, this isn't good for subscribers, because it’s part of the service they pay for.

As reported by Push Square, there were some workarounds shared by gamers on Reddit, but those workarounds have now been removed by the mods.
No specific reason was given for why the workarounds were removed. They don't appear to offer anything illegal or something that ventures into a moral grey area. They were helpful tricks that offered an alternative method to help subscribers get what they’ve paid for.

How To Fix PS3 Streaming Error
To stream PS3 games on your PS5 while this error continues, you must first add a game to your wishlist.
If you launch it from there, the game will launch as normal.
If that doesn't work, here's a second solution. Load up the PS Plus application on your PC (if you have one). Through that, you can add them to your library, and the games will play as normal.
It shouldn't be that hard!
Why Is This PS3 Streaming Error Happening?
There are reports that both of these workarounds were working, but no longer are for select users. But it seems like it works for others, so you'll have to give it a go and pray Sony fixes it soon.
But why is this happening? The optimist in me likes to think that Sony is working on a way to ditch having to stream PS2 and PS3 games, and will eventually allow direct downloads to the console.
That is wishful thinking, but hopefully Sony will clarify and fix the situation sooner rather than later.
Reddit Mod Explains Why the Workaround Was Removed, Kinda
“Your post was removed because it was breaking at least one of our rules.
Rule 8: No Duplicate Posts; Megathread Policy
Duplicate posts covering the same exact discussion will be removed (at least within two days of one another).
If the post is time-sensitive, such as the monthly games reveal, the first properly formatted post linking to an official source will usually be approved.
When official megathreads are stuck, similar separate posts discussing the same topic should be avoided unless it is new information.
Please modmail us if you have any questions.
I’m no expert, but nothing from the above stands above that states sharing these workarounds is against the rules. However, I could be very wrong with that. I have reached out to the mod for added clarification.
