PlayStation’s new handheld companion device isn’t even out yet, but it’s already being roasted over what fans are calling its ‘awful’ design.

Earlier this summer, Sony held their first major PlayStation Showcase in several years and let’s just say, it was pretty underwhelming. Several reveals were made but many were for cross-platform releases. Beyond Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, fans don’t really know what’s next for Sony. Many are convinced that they’re preparing for another showcase this summer, although that remains unconfirmed. Then again, amidst the The Last of Us Part II remaster rumours, and that suspected Uncharted and Ghost of Tsushima 2 footage we saw earlier this year, there would be plenty to announce. One project Sony did pull back the curtain on though is Project Q.

Take a look at Project Q below.

Project Q is a new handheld device that’ll allow you to play your favourite PS5 games via remote play. It’s like a cross between a Nintendo Switch and a DualSense controller. It’s not a true standalone handheld as it does need to be linked to your base PS5 console to work, but it’s certainly exciting to see Sony once again dabbling in the handheld market. Project Q is due to launch later this year, although Sony have held back on revealing the release date for now.

One device though has managed to find its way into the hands of someone who’s seemingly leaked it online. In a video, the unknown leaker could be seen flicking through the device’s UI before taking the device apart to look at its inner workings. Screenshots of the video were captured by Twitter account Zuby_Tech.

We’ll have to withhold judgement on how the device runs until we’ve tested it for ourselves but fans aren’t won over by the design. “That looks so bad. No one is buying that,” said one Twitter user. “My god this thing is ugly,” added another. “This s**t looks awful. That cannot feel any amount of good to hold,” one comment read. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
