One classic game may be receiving a surprise remaster according to a recent leak.
Remasters can be a bit of a divisive topic in the video game community with some fans wanting to see some of their favourite older titles receive a next-gen makeover whilst others believe it is impossible to capture the magic of the early 2000s.
Nevertheless, remasters are a sure fire way for developers to make that cash and sometimes, when a remaster is faithful, it can even be considered better than the original.
That may just be the case for Prototype, an action-adventure game which was first released way back in 2009.

Released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PC, Prototype followed the story of amnesiac shapeshifter Alex Mercer as he attempts to stop a virus outbreak which turns people into powerful monsters.
Praised for its originality, storytelling and fun gameplay, Prototype was a hit and has even been likened to the beloved Infamous franchise.
Well, now it seems as though Prototype is set to get the remaster treatment according to one Reddit user known as Bigbyy.
According to them, they received information on the remaster in a recent study group session on Discord.

The remaster will reportedly see the return of Alex Mercer and will feature the ability to shapeshift in order to take on the appearances of other people “to infiltrate areas”.
With Bigbyy revealing that Prototype will now take place in New York compared to the original game’s Manhattan, it is unclear if this will just be a remaster or a different game altogether.
Either way, Insider Gaming decided to reach out to the insider to receive more information on the project.
“[It] was YouGov survey which asked me to sign an NDA and confirm that I would not disclose the contents,” they explained.

“It then confirmed a series of features that upcoming games will include and how popular this was with me [percentage wise]. It was not a playtest but did specify that these features were already planned as part of upcoming games.”
Of course, it is worth noting that this Prototype project has not been officially confirmed by either Radical Entertainment or Activision and so the news must be taken with a pinch of salt.
However, that has not stopped fans from feeling the hype.
“I'd prefer a remake or a whole new game but getting anything is nice,” one user over on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours shared.

User VictorVonDoomer added, “A Prototype 1 remake would go so f**king hard.”
All we can do now is hope for official confirmation but until then, now would be the perfect time to replay a classic.
