A new Crash Bandicoot game is reportedly expected to follow the Spyro revival after rumours began to circulate on social media, but we may have to be very patient to play it.

When we think of old-school 3D platformers, especially those from the original PlayStation console, there’s a good chance that the likes of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon will instantly come to mind.

Originally developed by The Last of Us and Uncharted studio, Naughty Dog, and now handled by Toys for Bob, fans of Crash Bandicoot have had to wait patiently for a new game, but following the recent announcement of Spyro: A Realm Beyond, many fans will be hoping that wait will soon be over.

Could a New Crash Bandicoot Be Announced Soon?

As reported by ComicBook, it’s claimed that Xbox has greenlit the production of a new Crash Bandicoot title. The rumour is courtesy of the Twitter account ‘No Arms and No Legs’, which has previously leaked information before Spyro: A Realm Reborn was officially revealed.

It’s not been stated who will develop the next Crash Bandicoot game, but it’s safe to assume that it will once again be Toys for Bob, who previously developed Crash Team Rumble and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

That being said, rumours of a new Crash Bandicoot game potentially being on the way should be no surprise to anyone. After all, it’s always been an immensely popular franchise since its debut in 1997, and it would make all the sense in the world to have it follow Spyro: A Realm Beyond to capitalise on fan hype.

When Could We Expect The New Crash Bandicoot Game?

At the time of writing, that’s anyone’s guess. Assuming it doesn't get delayed, Spyro: A Realm Beyond is set to be released sometime in 2027, so it’s likely that the new Crash Bandicoot will arrive a while after that.

Perhaps the best case scenario would be that very early production has begun on the next Crash Bandicoot, alongside Spyro: A Realm Beyond, and it might arrive a couple of years later, which still puts us into 2029. Only time will tell, but we’ll keep you updated once we learn more. However, we should always take rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
