As January looms large bringing in a new year, it also brings with it a selection of new games available to download for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

One of the games included is a highly acclaimed stealth adventure A Plague Tale: Requiem, the sequel to the original A Plague Tale: Innocence. The game sees a brother and sister pair trying to live through and escape the dangers of a world in the grip of a plague carried through the streets and villages by rats. In fact, rats are so prolific in this game that anyone with a fear of the rodents might want to stay away.

A Plague Tale: Requiem was a terrific followup to the original game.

On release, A Plague Tale: Requiem was very well-received. It garnered positive reviews across the board and players often felt the same. The game heavily relies on stealth sections which are balanced well with wonderful cutscenes showing the trouble and turmoil of life. The game manages to pull off lots of moments of tension through situations with armed guards or swarms of rats.

We said, back in October 2022, that A Plague Tale: Requiem is “an utter masterclass in audio design [and] photorealism used to an enchanting and haunting degree" whilst featuring "a gripping story”. PlayStation Plus subscribers can download and keep the game for free, forever. If you haven’t played the original, it’s worth seeking out before jumping into Requiem as the story follows up on events from the original. Plus, it’s a great game in its own right.

To be honest, both games are worth playing for the rats alone. Even the most levelheaded person may fear the rodents in this game as they scurry about in their thousands trying to actively kill anyone in their way. They don’t just carry a disease but are a force to be reckoned with at every step of the story.
