The extra tier of PlayStation Plus has now been updated for May with a slew of new titles available to play.

The headliner of the month’s extra tier line-up is a thrilling action-adventure with a runtime of over 60-hours that’s drawn Red Dead Redemption 2 comparisons.

That game is the underrated Star Wars Outlaws.

Star Wars Outlaws hardly needs an introduction, having been released by Ubisoft just a couple of years ago in 2024.

The open-world title sees you step into the shoes of scoundrel Kay Vess who ends up working an array of jobs for the leaders of the Star Wars universe’s underworld.

Players are able to seamlessly travel between various planets and hyperspace as they fight, sneak, and outwit their way through some incredibly engaging encounters.

Kay is accompanied by the adorable creature companion Nix and droid ND-5.

While there is a main story, players have plenty of influence over the trajectory of Kay as you can side or lose favour with various factions.

For example, you might become a trusted aid of Crimson Dawn but fall out of favour of the Hutt Cartel, and that will influence how freely you can move around the open world.

Nothing will particularly become out of bounds, but you’re going to have to sneak or blast your way into territory owned by a faction that doesn’t like you all that much.

It’s this wanted system and depth of detail in the world’s social systems that have prompted the comparisons between Star Wars Outlaws and Red Dead Redemption 2 to be made over the years.

Completionists Should Be Able To Comfortably Spend Over 60 Hours In The Game

It’s strange to refer to Star Wars Outlaws as underrated as it reviewed well but perhaps slightly disappointed in terms of sales.

That may come from the fact that gamers immediately dismissed the title as another bland Ubisoft open-world.

While there are repetitive elements to Star Wars Outlaws if you’re going for full completion, it’s still most definitely an open-world still worth exploring.

It’s easy to lose yourself for several hours simply enjoying round after round of Sabacc.

The stealth encounters also drew some criticism, but a number of post-launch fixes have made those sections of the game much more enjoyable.

It’s a shame really that many did turn a blind eye to Star Wars Outlaws because it certainly feels like it should have marked the start of a budding franchise.

The game is perfect for fans of Mass Effect with the way that it challenges you to build favour with the galaxy’s various players.

Star Wars Outlaws has a main story runtime of around 18 hours or so, although you could be looking at up to 35 hours if you add side content into the mix and well over 60 hours for completionists.

If you really don’t fancy giving it a go, perhaps one of the remaining PlayStation Plus extra tier games this month will prove to your liking.

Red Dead Redemption 2, Bramble: The Mountain King, The Thaumaturge, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, Broken Sword - Shadows of the Templar: Reforged, and Enotria: The Last Song Standard Edition are all now available too.
