PlayStation Plus quietly drops brand-new game you can grab free now

It has good PS2 vibes

PlayStation Plus has dropped a brand-new game that we can play right now at no extra cost.

Regardless of the tier, Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service is packed full of games that we can play today, from AAA releases, indie darlings or retro classics of yesteryear.

Granted, the higher the PlayStation Plus tier that you subscribe to out of the three, the more games you’ll have available, but if you’re bored, you won't be short of anything to play either way.

One of the other great things about PlayStation Plus, as well as Xbox Game Pass, is that we might also play some games that may have flown under our radar, such as this release that has quietly dropped.

As brought to our attention on Reddit, the game in question is Abiotic Factor, developed by Deep Field Games and published by Playstack.

“Abiotic Factor is a survival crafting experience for 1-6 players set in the depths of an underground research facility,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“Caught between paranormal containment failure, a military crusade, and chaos from a dozen realms, the world’s greatest minds must survive against the universe’s biggest threats.”

The trailer gives the impression that Abiotic Factor could provide all the silliness in the best way, with its high-octane action, quirky humour and visuals that remind me of the PlayStation 2 era.

At the time of writing on Steam, Abiotic Factor has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating, which is always great to see.

“Deep Field cooked with this one. Abiotic Factor is everything I could ever want out of a facility survival game,” wrote Acadian. “Interesting tech, fascinating enemies, and a compelling world and story if you look deep enough.”

“I can't imagine any reality in which this gem isn't my GOTY for 2025,” said [ACPL] Jon. “One of the very best games I've played over the last few years.”

“The game is great; Half-Life meets SCP meets Minecraft. Combat is good, building and exploring is fun,” explained genessee.

Abiotic Factor is available with the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers, so sadly, Essential subscribers are missing out at the moment. That being said, Abiotic Factor is also available on Xbox Game Pass.
