Following price increases, questionably monthly additions, and more, it seems as though even more changes are coming to the PlayStation Plus subscriptions service and not every member will be happy.
It is hard to believe that PlayStation Plus was first introduced way back in 2010, allowing subscribers the chance to gain access to multiple games at no extra cost, with monthly additions arriving each month.
Since it was first introduced, it is safe to say that its price has increased but Sony is still dedicated to adding new and exciting releases to the service, including the occasional day-one release.
As it stands, the PlayStation Plus library offers members the chance to access both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles but according to a recent update, this is about to change.

According to Sony, PlayStation Plus will now focus on PlayStation 5 titles, whilst gradually phasing out PlayStation 4 games.
Starting in January 2026, PS Plus Essential will now have an emphasis on PS5 titles with PS4 games no longer being a key benefit.
They may still be occasionally included, but will gradually be phased out.
It makes sense considering that we are well into the PS5 era, but it is still unfortunate news for those looking forward to some of their favourite PS4 games being added to the service each month.

“As many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles from the Monthly Games and Game Catalogue benefit, PlayStation Plus is also evolving with this trend and will focus on offering PS5 titles through the Monthly Games and Game Catalogue benefit starting January 2026”, the official blog post reads.

However, Sony is quick to disclaim that this new change will not affect the PS4 monthly games that users have already redeemed from PlayStation Plus.

“You’ll continue to have access to games you’ve already redeemed as long as you remain a member,” the post confirms.
The update was shared over on r/PlayStationPlus and users soon came forward with their thoughts on this major change.
“Reminder that PS4 users can add PS5 games to their library through the PS App,” the top comment read, giving us a helpful reminder.
“I wonder how many years until PS4 games count as Classics and become a benefit of Premium tier,” another added.

This remains to be seen but for now, do not expect to see any of your PS4 favourites being added to the PS Plus library from 2026 onwards.
