It’s almost time for PlayStation Plus to unveil its latest free game additions to the Extra and Premium tiers, with the May line-up due this coming Wednesday, on 13 May.
Already, it’s confirmed that Time Crisis will land on the Premium tier having been announced during a State of Play earlier this year, despite many subscribers forgetting.
Ahead of all of this, however, a different kind of free offering has quietly made its way to the Extra tier already.
That’s because the Extra tier free game Abiotic Factor has just launched a free new DLC expansion titled Cosmic Companions, and all PlayStation Plus users can enjoy it now.
In case you missed it, Abiotic Factor first landed on the Extra tier in July of last year.

Developed by Deep Field Games and published by Playstack, it sees players attempt to survive within an underground facility facing various threats.
You must contend with enemies invading via portals as you put together a plan that’ll save everyone inside.
Playable alone or with up to six friends, you’ll gear up and journey outside the facility as well as improve and fortify your underground base, and unlock new skills.
Abiotic Factor fared well with critics upon release, securing a score of 88 on the aggregate website Metacritic.
It’ll perhaps come as no surprise that the Cosmic Companions DLC is predominantly concerned with adding a variety of new and updated pets to the game.
The update’s patch notes reveal that players can now tame a wider variety of pets, with a companion pet slot having been added so that your pet can help you out in the field.

Chemistry advancements have led to the introduction of Peccary Taming plus all pets can now be picked up as long as you have a free hotbar slot.
There are plenty of other improvements to the way pets eat and follow scientists around the facility, as well as how they are tamed and renamed.
The addition of chemistry is another big focus of the DLC with players now able to build Distillation Benches so they can process anomalous materials.
Distilled resources can then be taken to a Chemistry Bench to be combined into a new concoction.
There are 12 new throwable flasks that can be crafted at Chemistry Benches, plus you can produce 10 new Tinctures and 10 new Weapon Coatings.
Players can craft new wristwatches with various effects pertaining to stealth and hauling goods.
The DLC will also mark the arrival of some hefty new world changes with unfamiliar hostile enemies flooding in via the unstable Botanical Temporal Rift.
This is all alongside a ton of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
PlayStation Plus users are full of praise for this underrated game.
“Went in with no expectations and somehow ended up with my favourite co-op experience of all time. Genuinely one of the best games you can ever play with a friend/friends. Enjoyed getting that platinum,” remarked BirdPurgatory.
“This game came out of nowhere for me and absolutely destroyed my expectations. One of the best in the genre. I will probably play it again to try out the new updates,” added Superbeast06.
“This game was incredible. Went in with no expectations and it was my personal game of the year. I think it exceeds what Subnautica was able to do in terms of a more campaign-like survival game experience,” said Blitzkreeg21.
You don’t get praise much better than that. Cosmic Companions is available now as long as Abiotic Factor is up to date.
