PlayStation Plus adding 2 free open-world RPGs this month, it appears

It could be a big month for PS Plus

Sony will always be looking at ways to maintain strong concurrent numbers for its subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service and if rumours are true, those subscribers have a reason to get excited this month.

In early July for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers, players were offered Among Us, Borderlands 3 and NHL 24 to add to their ever-expanding library. Then more recently, Sony announced 13 more games coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium which included some bangers.

Check out the Forspoken trailer below!

So now that those 16 titles are out of the way, you’d link that Sony is done with the PlayStation Plus offerings for July 2024, right? Well, if rumours are to be believed, subscribers to the Extra and Premium tier could be treated to two additional open-world RPGs later this month.

As reported by Express UK, it’s been claimed that Forspoken and Hogwarts Legacy are coming to PlayStation Plus soon. Upon their respective release dates in 2023, both Forspoken and Hogwarts Legacy grabbed the headlines for very different reasons.

Forspoken, published by Square Enix and developed by the now defunct Luminous Productions was a game that initially had a lot of promise when it was first revealed as Project Athia in 2020. Sadly, when the game was released, it arguably did not look as good as the 2020 reveal trailer teased and it was criticised for its uninspired gameplay and story.

Following the failure of Forspoken, not only were copies of the game found in a landfill, but Luminous Productions closed its doors and was forced to merge with Square Enix as a single entity. Physical copies can still be found at bargain bin prices but if you’re a subscriber to PlayStation Plus, you might soon be able to see what all the fuss is about, for better or worse.

As for Hogwarts Legacy, this action RPG from Avalanche Software garnered praise across the board and would become the best-selling game of 2023. Unlike Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy would be a surprising but welcomed addition to PlayStation Plus, given how popular the game remains to be.

Of course, the reports of Forspoken and Hogwarts Legacy are unconfirmed rumours at this point, so we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, hopefully, we’ll learn more in the coming weeks about whether or not both RPGs will come to PS Plus this month or next.
