PlayStation quietly drops massive open-world freebie you can download for limited time

As we encroach into July, new games are appearing on PlayStation Plus, with hundreds of hours of brilliant gameplay ready for you to experience.

We’ve already seen what the service holds for us when it comes to free games on the PlayStation Plus Essential tier, but there are some extra freebies available thanks to Sony.

This month sees the 15th anniversary of the subscription service, and Sony are celebrating throughout July with big tournaments, free multiplayer weekends, and new trials for best-selling games.

One of those trials is for the brilliant Monster Hunter Wilds, which captivated players on release not too long ago.

Monster Hunter is a series with a dedicated fanbase who love the gameplay loop of hunting down monsters, using their parts and materials you find in the vast open-world to craft armour and weapons.

I love this game a great deal, as it took the Monster Hunter World formula and expanded it greatly, giving us a proper open-world filled with interesting things to see, and a map that feels more alive than ever.

With an engaging story to carry you along, there’s a lot to love here, and once that story caps off, you’re free to grind out more monsters and reach the highest rank.

It’s unclear if you’ll be able to play alongside your friends in the game trial, but the full game allows for teams of hunters to take down bigger creatures.

Playing with random people is fine, but nothing beats partying up with your mates to take down an apex predator.

This PlayStation trial is available now, but it’s scheduled for a limited time, so if you’ve been eager to try out hunting down some monsters for yourself, this is the best time for it.

The opportunity to try the game is available to PlayStation Plus Premium members.
