PlayStation Users Issued Final Warning Ahead of Major Service Shutdown

The economy is coming for us all

It is a sad time for those who wish to get their hands on some official merchandise as Sony is set to shut down one of its major services.

If you are anything like me, then you will love to surround yourself with merchandise dedicated to your favourite games, whether it is official or fan-made.

One such way to do this is by heading to both the PlayStation Gear and Xbox Gear Shop to get your hands on all manner of items dedicated to your favourite titles, ranging from clothing to accessories, soundtracks and more.

However, for some unknown reason, both the PlayStation Gear and Xbox Gear Shops are reportedly shutting down.

For the Xbox Gear Shop, it first closed back in August for a reported major revamp and reconstruction.

However, if you head over to the site today, you will be greeted with the following message: "The Xbox Gear Shop Will be Back Soon" with no other information provided.

Now it seems as though the same has happened for the PlayStation Gear Shop.

In a report by Push Square, heading over to the site will see you faced with yet another message.

This time it reads: "Thanks for visiting PlayStation Gear Store. This site will be closing December 31st. Our Customer Service team will still be here and happy to help regarding your order. All sales are final."

As you can see, this message is a lot more final than the Xbox one and claims that the store will be shutting down altogether at the end of the year.

Once again, no reason has been provided but as you can imagine, PlayStation users are shocked over the news but felt as though the decision did make sense if you consider the world’s economy right now.

“I mean... most of that s*it costs more than the games,” one user over on r/playstation shared.

“Like, I'm a gaming fan, but let's be real, letting randos in the street know isn't worth that kind of scratch.”

Another user agreed, adding, “Honestly I get it. Everything in the shop is too expensive or not even worth buying, the shop isn't promoted as much or this is the first time anyone has heard about it.”

Perhaps in relation to it shutting down, the PlayStation Gear Store is now hosting a major sale so if you do want to grab any Sony merch, now is probably the best time.

As for Xbox, it remains to be seen what will happen but for now, it seems as though the Xbox Gear Store is on a hiatus and will return in the future.
