It can be very easy to forget that the PlayStation Store is home to hundreds of free game demos.

Why? Well, we so often hear about the ‘game trials’ locked behind the paywall that is PlayStation Plus premium.

That’s where you’ll need to head if you want to try out major titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate 3, or DOOM: The Dark Ages.

It’s far from being the only place you can sample games though.

As I said, the PlayStation Store houses hundreds of demos which are available to all users, no subscription or payment needed.

I’ll admit, I’m usually so busy seeing to my gaming backlog that I often forget to look what’s on offer, but I always make an effort to see what’s new at least once a month.

I download a couple of demos that I like the look of, give them a whirl, and usually end up with a few titles on my wishlist.

It’s a great aid in keeping track of both what you want to play and what’s worth your money.

The best way to find out what’s available is to simply browse, as everyone has their genre preferences.

I’m going to highlight a few recent additions though that I’ll either be checking out or can recommend.

Gothic 1 Remake is one of the titles you can sample, an upcoming remake of the beloved 2001 RPG.

This one’s a unique prologue, offering you an experience you won’t get in the base game but one that’ll still give you a feel for the game’s world and mechanics.

Or there’s Discounty, a zany pixel-art sim that sees you run your own discount supermarket.

You’ll get caught up in Blomkest’s small-town drama, design your store’s layout and strike lucrative trade deals; this one’s a feast for the eyes.

Cairn is one of my most anticipated games.

It’s a survival climber where you’ll set out to ascend Mount Kami, keeping an eye on Aava’s needs.

You’ll need to ensure she stays well rested, fed, and watered, being careful not to over exert her during the climb - and this is all without a UI, so you best have a keen eye for detail.

Cattle Country is one I’ve already been playing the full release of, so I can certainly vouch for it.

Another pixel-art title, it’s basically a blend of Stardew Valley and Red Dead Redemption, taking cosy gaming to the Wild West.

Deadzone: Rogue looks pretty great too.

A roguelite first-person shooter, this one sees players blast through hordes of enemies. “Fight. Die. Revive. Repeat,” it teases.

That’s just a small slice of what’s on offer, so go have a peruse.
