PlayStation and Insomniac Games have teamed up to drop an unexpected free download for all PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users, and the best part is you don't need PlayStation Plus to claim it.

These days Insomniac Games is probably best known for its work on Marvel's Spider-Man and its wildly successful sequel, but let's never forget this is the same studio behind the excellent Ratchet & Clank series.

2021's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart scored a perfect 10 here at GAMINGbible, and the 2016 remake/reboot of the original game was - and still is - an absolute treat to play. The movie adaptation was less good, but we don't talk about that.

To celebrate the eighth anniversary of 2016's Ratchet & Clank, PlayStation and Insomanic Games have made the title's original pre-order bonus - an extra weapon - free to download and claim.

“Bounce back to Ratchet & Clank (2016) for its eighth anniversary,” Insomniac Games wrote on Twitter. “To celebrate, the Bouncer is now available to download at no additional cost.”

It's worth noting that Ratchet & Clank is available via PlayStation Plus, and has been enhanced for PlayStation 5 to boast a silky smooth 60fps. Definitely worth checking out if you've never played it!

The game's many weapons are a definite highlight, with various sci-fi blasters capable of all manner of bizarre and hilarious effects. You can also upgrade every weapon for complete and utter cartoon carnage, which is always a delight.

A kind-of shotgun that blasts enemies into literal pixels is great fun to use, as is the grenade that causes enemies to uncontrollable boogie. Yes, Fortnite, someone else had that idea before you.

The Bouncer does what it says on the tin, and fires out bouncing balls of destruction at enemies. Please make sure you use responsibly, yeah? Yeah.
